My Skincare Journey and Current Routine

Let me start by saying my skin and I have been in a fight since age 14.

All About My Skin: I think it would be helpful if you knew a little about my skin before I dive right into the products I use. My skin is the ultimate acne prone skin type to a T. There's no if, ands, buts, or's about it, I have acne. Back in high school, I was lucky enough to have the cystic acne (the underground's that hurt like a b****). UGH! I would spend hours in the mirror picking at my face, to only make it worse. To cover up my mess, I would pile layers up layers of foundation until it had the consistency of birthday cake. (Can you say ew!) On top of the acne, my skin has always been the dry type. Patches of flakiness would join the party (and wear out their welcome). Needless to say, it was an uphill battle throughout my teenage years, but I have finally found a regime that works!

The Process: Throughout high school, I had countless appointments at the dermatologist, painful acne facials, and an abundance of perception medicines (oral and topical). Ultimately the extractions, shots of cortisone, microdermabrasion, and medication cleared it up. Once I got into college, I wanted to eventually get off of the prescription medicines and onto something a little less intense (while still keeping my face clear). I experimented with a plethora of brands and have found a routine my skin L-O-V-E-S. Mind you, I am a woman and get the occasional blemish around that time of the month or if I eat pizza rolls for a week...but hey! I'd say my skin is looking better than ever!

So here ya go, beauties, my current skincare routine...

Face washPeter Thomas Roth Glycol Cleanser: My skin can take a lot so I love glycolic acid in my face washes. I feel like it's the only thing harsh enough to keep my skin clear (I probably would't go for this if you have sensitive skin). I also double cleanse with this to make sure I get ALL my makeup off.

Toner: Algenist Splash Hydrating Mist: Balances out your PH levels and refreshes your skin after cleansing

Genius Liquid Collagen: Critical for healthy skin and nails

Serum: Algenist Power Pressed Serum: Really helps even out my skin...I have noticed such a huge difference since I started using this.

Eye Cream: Algenist Firming and Lifting Eye Cream: I kissed my under eye wrinkles good bye with this product. Bonus: it has illuminating effects.

Day time Moisturizer: Fresh Vitamin Nectar: This moisturizer is perfect for the morning because it wakes up my skin with a light, cooling feel.

Night time Moisturizer: Algenist Splash Hydration Sleeping Pack: A glass of water for your skin.

Extras: About every other night, I like to do some sort of a mask or more intensive serum. I will analyze my skin and see what it is lacking. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Algenist Retinol Firming and Lifting Serum: Gotta start that anti-aging early, people.
  • Peter Thomas Roth Peeling Gel: You can literally feel the dead skin ball up on your face; so gross yet so satisfying.
  • Sheet Masks: Sephora has great options for about $5.00 or more expensive luxiorious ones, if that's what you're looking for.
  • Glam Glow: I honestly live for Glam Glow masks. They have a ton of different options depending on what your skin needs.

Remember, we all have different skin types, so what works for me, might not work for you. Also, skincare is a journey and not something that happens overnight!
